Industrial Wastewater Treatment Solutions

Project-Specific Treatment Engineering for Complex Industrial Effluents

SYNERAQUA develops project-specific industrial wastewater treatment solutions based on wastewater characteristics, treatment capacity, required effluent quality, reuse objectives and site conditions. Our scope can include process engineering, modular treatment systems, engineered equipment, plant upgrades and EPC cooperation according to project requirements.

Industrial Wastewater Requires Project-Specific Treatment Engineering

Industrial wastewater differs significantly between industries — and between production processes within the same industry. Composition, concentration and flow can fluctuate with raw materials, batch operations and seasonal production. For this reason, the treatment process cannot be selected from a standard catalogue: it is engineered from the project-specific variables below.

01

Wastewater Source

The production process and industry sector determine which process streams are generated and which treatment duties arise.

02

Pollutant Characteristics

Organic load, suspended solids, oil and grease, metals, nutrients, salinity, toxicity or colouring compounds — where relevant to the project.

03

Flow & Load

Average and peak flow, batch discharge patterns and load fluctuations define hydraulic and treatment capacity.

04

Effluent Requirements

Applicable discharge limits or internal targets determine the required treatment depth and process reliability.

05

Reuse Objectives

Where water reuse is intended, the required reuse-water quality defines additional treatment and membrane stages.

06

Site Conditions

Available space, utilities, existing infrastructure and local constraints influence layout and system configuration.

These variables together determine the treatment process and system configuration. Two facilities in the same industry may therefore require different process routes — the design basis of each project defines the solution.

Treatment Processes Configured Around Wastewater Characteristics

Depending on the project design basis, a treatment route is assembled from proven process stages. Main-stream treatment stages are shown below; conditioning stages such as chemical dosing and sludge handling are configured according to the confirmed wastewater characteristics and treatment objectives.

01

When applicable

05

Advanced / Tertiary Treatment

06

08

Discharge or Reuse

Not every project requires every treatment stage. The final process configuration is determined by confirmed wastewater characteristics, treatment objectives and the project design basis.

Typical treatment capabilities configured for industrial projects

  • Screening & equalization
  • Coagulation / flocculation
  • DAF / sedimentation
  • pH adjustment / chemical treatment
  • Biological treatment
  • MBBR / activated sludge / MBR where applicable
  • Filtration
  • UF / RO where required
  • Advanced oxidation where required
  • Sludge thickening / dewatering

Industrial Wastewater Treatment Across Different Industries

Each industry generates effluents with its own pollutant profile, load pattern and treatment constraints. Treatment approaches are configured according to the confirmed wastewater analysis and design basis of each project.

01

Food & Beverage Processing

High-strength organic effluents from processing, cleaning and production lines.

02

Chemical & Petrochemical

Complex effluents requiring structured physicochemical and biological configurations.

03

Pharmaceutical & Fine Chemicals

Effluents with residual organics, salinity or bio-inhibitory compounds where present.

04

Metal Finishing & Surface Treatment

Rinse waters and process streams containing metals, oils or specific ions where relevant.

05

Electronics & Manufacturing

Process wastewater and cleaning streams from fabrication and assembly operations.

06

Pulp, Paper & Textile

High-volume organic and colour-bearing effluents from production processes.

07

Mining, Energy & Produced Water

Produced and process water treatment configured according to site and discharge conditions.

08

Industrial Parks & Integrated Facilities

Centralized treatment for mixed effluents from multiple tenants and industries.

The categories above illustrate application breadth. Within each industry, the treatment process is configured according to the confirmed wastewater characteristics of the individual project.

From Process Engineering to Treatment System Delivery

Industrial wastewater projects differ in commercial structure as well as in technical scope. SYNERAQUA can enter a project at different points — from process engineering and system design through equipment supply, modular systems, plant upgrades and, where appropriate, EPC cooperation.

01

Process Engineering & System Design

Process route definition, system design and technical documentation developed from the confirmed wastewater analysis and project design basis.

02

Modular / Skid-Mounted Treatment Systems

Factory-assembled treatment modules and skid-mounted systems configured according to capacity, transport and site interface conditions.

03

Engineered Equipment Packages

Treatment equipment, dosing systems and custom-fabricated units supplied according to the defined project and delivery scope.

04

Existing WWTP Upgrade & Retrofit

Review of the existing treatment system and configuration of upgrade or retrofit measures according to current treatment objectives.

05

Equipment Integration & Supply

Integration of pumps, piping, instrumentation and control systems into complete treatment units before delivery.

06

EPC Cooperation — Where Appropriate

For projects where agreed commercial responsibility covers engineering, procurement and construction, SYNERAQUA can act within an EPC cooperation model.

The final SYNERAQUA scope is defined according to the project requirements and the agreed commercial responsibility. EPC is one possible cooperation model — not a mandatory delivery structure.

Engineering Capability Supported by Manufacturing & Project Experience

Treatment concepts only create value when they can be engineered in detail, manufactured and integrated. SYNERAQUA combines process engineering with in-house fabrication of treatment equipment, modular systems and integrated process units, supported by project delivery experience across industrial applications.

Industrial Wastewater Treatment FAQ

Common questions from industrial facilities, EPC contractors and consultants evaluating treatment projects.

How is an industrial wastewater treatment process selected?
The process route is configured from the confirmed wastewater characteristics, flow and load pattern, required effluent quality or reuse objectives, and site conditions. There is no single fixed process suitable for all industrial wastewater — the design basis of each project determines which treatment stages are required.
Can SYNERAQUA treat high-COD or complex industrial wastewater?
Complex effluents can be evaluated based on a confirmed wastewater analysis. Depending on the pollutant profile, the configuration may combine physicochemical and biological stages, with additional advanced treatment where required by the design basis. Treatability for a specific effluent is assessed project by project — subject to confirmed wastewater analysis.
Can the system be supplied as modular or skid-mounted equipment?
Yes. Where suitable for the treatment process, capacity and site conditions, systems can be engineered as skid-mounted, containerized or other modular configurations according to transport, installation and interface requirements.
Can SYNERAQUA upgrade an existing wastewater treatment plant?
Yes. Upgrade and retrofit projects start with a review of the existing process, current performance limitations and updated treatment objectives. Based on this review, measures can be defined — from process modifications to additional treatment stages or equipment replacement — according to the project scope.
What information is required for a technical proposal?
Useful information includes the wastewater source and production process, average and peak flow, wastewater analysis (COD, BOD, TSS, pH and project-relevant pollutants), applicable discharge limits or reuse requirements, site conditions, and the required project scope. If some data is not yet available, send the information currently available and our engineering team can identify the remaining requirements.
Can SYNERAQUA provide EPC or on-site technical support?
Where the agreed commercial responsibility covers engineering, procurement and construction, SYNERAQUA can act within an EPC cooperation model. Commissioning and on-site technical support can also be included according to the project scope. The delivery structure is agreed per project — EPC is one possible model, not the only one.
